Picking off small insects from the cane perch in the sunshine which has been glorious all day, the common darter was in its element.
A good day for gardening and we have till we've dropped. The result looking out there now is quietly satisfying. There is still quite a bit to do before we can lock down the garden for the winter but we are getting there.
Also enjoying the sun was a small copper butterfly on the asters in the Extra.
The most fascinating thing today was a huge battle in the sky between what I mistakenly thought was my kestrel against my two crows. Checking the camera after they had literally chased it for a good ten minutes up into the stratosphere it transpired it was two rooks making certain a pesky sparrow hawk didn't return.
