Crack Tacking
Earthquakes are not good for concrete. Even if it doesn't break up it can develop many thousands of cracks. This is part of the floor of a large Christchurch warehouse that was built on a slab of concrete about the size of a football pitch. They are working on strips across the warehouse. With each move the stock and fittings have to be rearranged. They have been working on it for months now, and are only a little way through.
The cracks are filled with epoxy resin. Then the surface is ground and polished. The result is a shiny floor, with pale dots that could be a random pattern. Since the aisles are only about 3 or 4 metres wide the scale of the repairs in the finished portion is not noticeable.
