Drastic hedge trimming
We had been planning some removal of hedges. We have hedging all round, which is mainly griselinia, with some laurel - all evergreen and rather boring. Our original intention was to initially remove the roadside hedge on the right of the gates (as viewed from inside) as part of the radical redesign of the lawn on that side. But various circumstances have delayed that project. So that was one of the first bits that B trimmed - to be no higher than the gate post. Whilst B was working his way round the rest of the hedging, we discussed, and decided, that rather than just trimming the roadside hedge on the left side of the gates (seen in this blip), we would get him to cut it down completely.
B was initially reluctant - "are you sure?" - but having been persuaded, he set to with his chain saw last Saturday, and once done, he was all for doing the other side!
There's a bank between our land and the road - locally called "a ditch" - which I'm pretty certain would traditionally have simply been the stones ploughed up from the field and moved to one side to improve the soil. Until we clear it a bit, we won't know how much stone and how much soil is on our ditch. But it certainly has a couple of hawthorn trees growing on it. And a honeysuckle. There's a wire fence on this side of it - I think that's the next item to clear!
I started today with a ride on my exercise bike, whilst W got his exercise in a much more useful way, clearing the fallen leaves from our grass so Husky can more effectively cut it.
Then a trip to the local pharmacy for our flu and Covid boosters.
And I've done some flute practice - the pieces for the HFC concert band are quite challenging! W cooked a very tasty veg curry for dinner. We've watched another episode of Rita, and now it's time for dessert.
