The Local

So after yesterday's debacle today hasn't been exactly plain sailing either. Something important is missing, hopefully in the house. I hope I can find it. The dehumidifier which is downstairs to dry the furniture flooded the front room floor, and I left my mobile in the care home when I went to see my Dad and had to go back for it! Brian drove me down when he went to visit his mum and I walked back for the second time. On the way home I took this shot of the pub. It looked inviting but I kept walking!

On a more upbeat note, I watched the Rugby League Awards thing last night and Bevan French did indeed win the Man of Steel award which is brilliant, and well deserved.

The event itself however... For the top level of an international sport, it was a joke. Can anyone remember the Wheel Tappers and Shunters Club on TV? Or more recently Phoenix Nights? That's the kind of thing I mean. The entertainment was typical of a working men's social club and the songs they chose as walk on music was often questionable. For example. Lindsay Anfield,  the coach of women's team York Valkyrie was voted women's Super League coach of the year. Her music, with lyrics, was " The Grand Old Duke of York" but with female pronouns. Two lads shared the Championship player of the year award. Their music? 'Just the two of us.." During the interviews and some of the awards the sound quality was terrible too. You could hear the interviewer but not the subjects. It wasn't very professional, and does nothing for the image of the sport.
