floral clock

In Edinburgh for meetings today. On my way along Princes Street, I stopped to watch the gardeners planting the floral clock. Apparently this is the oldest working example in the world, having been here since 1903. It takes 3 men 3 weeks to put in 24,000 new plants every summer, then a single gardener is responsible for its maintenance for the season. The clock is 12ft wide and needs winding daily. This year its theme is Edinburgh Zoo.
