And they're off!!
I haven't actually spoken to the NC500 team, but via the various messaging apps (how did we survive before WhatsApp?) I have an idea of their day....
So starting with Andy's - I can only call it a mountain - of gear to pack into the car. What else from a mountain leader. Jon I believe took it in his stride and packed, then repacked the book of his car, plus every other available space! Martin was driving up from Bexleyheath, and hit some early morning traffic in the M25. Jon was just praying he had a small bag! Lol.
They got away at just before 9, with EVERYTHING fitting in. Hooray!! Jon could probably win a gold medal at car boot packing. With only a minor hiccup, they were properly on their way heading north after the main rush hour. They stopped at 10.30 for coffee at a garage, then lunch 3 hours later at the Wetherby services. It was nice to receive the Angel of the North photo as they entered geordie country, as that is something I alway photograph when we are travelling that way. I feel it signifies that you have reached 'The North'!!
Then, at precisely 3.44pm they entered Scotland! So less than 7 hours from leaving home. They proceeded to stop for a drink in Dunbar at McDonald's...and I believe a healthy(?) snack to refuel themselves.
Then their final drive for today took them to Dunfermline where they have successfully checked in to their room at the Travelodge.
Andy has checked into his bed, and the other two are quietly watching a bit of TV. I suspect they won't be far behind heading to bed. Their plan is to be up at 7am...
