Just Because .......

Standing proudly on the banks of the Bridgewater Canal is Monton Lighthouse.  Monton is near Eccles which is near Salford - it is not coastal in any respect - except it has a lighthouse.
It was built by Phil Austin - just because he thought it was a 'good idea'. He started the project about 20 years ago - it is 40ft tall, has 3 floors and a light at the top (which is only used for very special occasions).  I like it :-)
