Waterfall

Even though I was exhausted, I didn’t sleep well., probably I was over tired.  The weather forecast was for rain, and it was raining this morning, and I think it may well have rained all night.  It wasn’t cold,  was very still and was very wet

After the shambles of dinner last night, breakfast was an even bigger shambles.  Service was slow, butter was rationed and my request for marmalade was met with a blank look.  We had to request additional butter about three times and I had to ask for marmalade about three times.  All very strange.  I must add that the food was all very nice, but the service left a lot to be desired.

Most of us then headed off to change into our wet weather gear for the walk along the Speyside Way to Aberlour.  Most of our group were going to a whisky tasting at the distillery.  A couple stayed behind at the hotel to chill out and I joined the whisky gang – but just for the walk, fully intending to walk back again after picking up a Guardian.  However, on approaching the distillery I spotted a sign pointing to the falls – it seemed a good day to view a waterfalls,.  I enquired about eh walk at the distillery and when they went to their tasting , I walked up to the waterfall, which wasn’t all that far, then back down again, before meeting up with everyone at the distillery as they were just finishing the tasting.  They hung around for a wee while, finishing off their drams and making a few purchases.  They were all very impressed with my waterfall pictures and suggested that we all go back up, which we did, apart from a couple of folk who headed back to the hotel.

Once back in Aberlour, we all seemed to do our own thing.  TT and I bought some shortbread from the Walkers shop and then we mostly all met up in a pub for a couple of drinks before heading back to the hotel.  Given the constant rain,  the River Spey had risen quite  a bit since this morning., and was very full and fast flowing, with lots of debris, including multiple tree trunks being carried long.

It was lovely to relax in a hot bath when we got back to the hotel., especially as TT was watching the rugby (the England match) and shouting at the TV.  We got ourselves ready and met everyone in the bar for a  drink before dinner, before sitting down at our table.  The lights flickered and then the electricity went off and was off for about forty minutes.  Luckily there lots of candles.  We were provided with wine, but there was real doubt as to when the power would come back on, which meant no food.  We had just agreed that they would provide us with cheese platters and salad, when the lights came back on.  Hurrah – the kitchen was back in actions, so we did eventually get our meal and the service was much better this evening.  Later we retreated to the whisky bar again, and again I was struggling to stay awake! A lovely day, though a rather wet day - good for waterfalls.
