Enjoying the Metro

The Metro used to mean an underground railway system in a city, especially Paris. Now to most travellers in the UK it means the free newspaper picked up by passengers in stations or discarded on a train seat. It must be the most widely read national news sheet. It carries the latest headlines plus celebrity gossip, football headlines, music and film reviews - just enough to digest in the average 20 minute suburban journey.

Although I also had a lovely shot of a gorgeous urban meadow of wild flowers that has sprung up on a piece of waste ground, I thought I might not be able to capture again this slice of contemporary life with such a pleasant-looking young woman, obviously enjoying the paper.

The Metro headline about Mumford and Son also underscores how the lives of global superstars are hot news. A blood clot on the surface of the brain is not wonderful at any time, but especially not on an American tour. However, the other band members have been assured that the bassist Ted Dwane will recover quickly. I hope he does.
