Lady Row, York
On a wet and miserable day.
This is the oldest row of houses in York (completed 1316) and one of the first in England to have an overhanging upper storey.
The painted tea room sign seems to have caused some controversy recently. A York historical group is offended and says the sign is not in keeping with the building. They seem to want signage that reflects an idealised version of York from the 18th/19th century. I'm not sure why, as this building dates from the early 14th century. Personally, I can't see anything wrong with the painted sign. Apparently, they are happy with the green plastic one of the chinese next door.
