Unexpected

More startling in large.

It was a grey, cloudy evening, and this happened in seconds. We were among many who interrupted their stroll along the sea front to admire the beauty of nature.

We were on our way back from the Sunday afternoon jam session at Robert's Top, a bar in town. We were surprised to find R and D sitting at a table outside and even more surprised when they said their band was playing this evening. We'd arrived a bit late and couldn't find a seat with a view of the stage so we sat by the bar till their band came on and then I got up and took a few photos. It's dark and crowded in there and nearly everyone seemed to be videoing on their phones, so it was difficult to find an unobstructed view. And Rohini was almost invisible in the shadows at the back of the stage. I did my best -- see photo in extras: Darren on guitar (left) and Rohini on bass (middle).

Did I mention it was their first ever public gig? Darren's been playing guitar for two years and Rohini  bass for one. They are both very musical though (Rohini plays the violin as well), so it was more than creditable. They had swiftly added the sadly topical Blowing in the Wind to their repertoire this morning and that got a big round of applause.

We caught up with them outside, getting over their first night nerves. They were good enough that the organisers had asked them to play another short set later. But as we hadn't found a good place to sit, we decided to leave and strolled along the seafront. We also found an open mini supermarket where we were able to replace the corkscrew S broke yesterday evening, so a glass of wine and tapas at home were possible.
