2000 acres of sky

I was watching CSI on Tuesday night (Last Woman Standing), it guest starred Henry Ian Cusick. Mandy and I discussed the awful 'British' accent he was using and we wondered if, as is often the case, if he was a British actor affecting an accent which an American audience believe to be authentically English. (In my opinion the best example of a cod British accent is Jane Leeves in Frasier.)

Turing to the font of all knowledge, IMDB, it doesn't identify his nationality but I suspect he may be British or Irish and found out that he spent some time at the Citizens in Glasgow. I also knew that I recognised him from other programmes as he was in Lost (Desmond Hume) and Two thousand acres of sky (Dr. Talbot).

This got me thinking about the expression "Two thousand acres of sky". Although it conjures up vision of vast open spaces, two thousand acres is not actually that large an area. Indeed it is about 150 full-size football pitches. For those elsewhere in the world that is association football, not American or Australian Rules (not that I would every say anything against Aussie Rules, in case it gave any Australians an excuse to do a Warner on me.)
