Part Of Something Bigger

After last night's late finish there was never going to be much action today. I surfaced around lunch time, only because there was food on the go.

I did pick up after that and decided to take the family into town along with a couple of friends to hear Iona perform again as part of the Church of Scotland's annual event "Heart and Soul" in Princes Street Gardens.

It was a good atmosphere with people from all over the country gathered together in a superb setting under the Castle Rock. The band were again brilliant and played one of my favourite numbers, Irish Day, written about St Columba's part in establishing Christianity on our shores 1450 years ago.

A wider lens is good occasionally, helping us to place ourselves in the bigger picture of national spiritual heritage, the church's present-day diversity, and geographical spread. It should increase our awareness of the church's responsibility to plough a good course in the days ahead.
