Churches

We drove into Maastricht this morning. Maastricht is the capital of the province of Limburg. I haven't been before and we had a lovely time. We went into both churches pictured here. The one on the left is the protestant church while the one on the right is catholic. We went into both. The differences are remarkable. The protestant church was very bare and sombre, whilst the catholic church was full of artwork and imagery. The catholic church had a treasure room full of valuable items belonging to the church. There were the relics and their boxes, the crypt and the vestibule garments (I think that's what the priests wear). It was very beautiful. Little Man discovered that if he yelled in the nave, some pretty impressive echoes answered him. So he had a lot of fun yelling in the nave (the main area of the church building).

We got tickets for tomorrow to see the caves under Maastricht. We were going to go today but missed the tour and didn't want to wait until after 1 p.m. for the next one. We wanted to get Little Man home to rest. He did rest but didn't sleep. However, he fell asleep after we got into the car and headed out to find a restaurant for dinner. The sleep must have done him good because he was an angel throughout the meal.
