Autumn glory in the Grove
Wednesday
The day started out really quite chilly, but was forecast to develop into a lovely warm sunny day. Roger was meeting up at lunch time for his monthly get together with friends for lunch, mainly fellow retirees from his former company, and those who wanted were meeting at 10 am for a bike ride, which R had decided he would go to. He was having a hard time deciding what to wear, given the cold temperatures to start with, but with fairly rapidly rising temperatures, and of course he would warm up as he worked out! As it turned out, he was the only one who showed up for the bike ride. So I decided it would be a great morning for me to drive down to Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum, and have a walk around there -it’s always so gorgeous at this time of year, and it has several ups and downs, so you get a fairly good work out too - in between photo stops that is!
In the evening we were out at the Aronoff Center, watching the Broadway show, Girl from the North Country, featuring music from Bob Dylan. However, it is not about Dylan, though it does take place in Duluth, Minnesota where Dylan was born, but in an earlier time period, in 1934, during the Great Depression. It doesn’t really have a plot, but is rather a series of vignettes depicting difficult lives intersecting round a run down guesthouse. As often as not, the lyrics from the Dylan songs (of which I only recognized about three) have little to do with the on stage action. Over all then, despite good singing and dancing, we came away disappointed - we found it very strange and really depressing, and in our current world, everything is depressing enough!
