Union Chain Bridge
I eased myself into morning quite slowly –there was more laundry and chores, but once done I sat down with some lovely toast, made with some rather nice bread.
Late morning we three departed and headed down the A1 to meet TT’s sister and husband at Paxton House. We had a lovely lunch in the café, then walked along to the Union Chain Bridge, which is now fully restored and operational again. TT were last here back in April, when it was complete, but not open. I’ve never seen so many people there. Maybe because it is half term, maybe because it’s a nice day, or maybe they came to see the bridge.
We walked over the bridge to England, and up to the Honey Farm. Our intention was tea and cake at the bus café, but it was closed. There was disappointment all round. We popped into the visitor centre and had a look around an exhibition of wildlife photographs before walking back to Paxton to the tea room for tea and cake, we just made it before it closed. We thought about another wee walk, but decided we were all too weary, so we said out goodbyes and headed off home. Our drive home was not without challenge, as the A1 was closed due to an accident. We (and everyone else) had to make our own way on narrow country roads through Innerwick, Brunt and Spott to Pitcox. We could have re-joined the A1 near there, but we just carried on through Stenton and Morham until we eventually arrived home.
I was already thinking of something quick for tea, but TT took it upon himself to make a lasagne – so we left him to it. Then there was more rugby.
This is the newly restored union Chain Bridge, taken from the Scottish side.
