Franz von Sickingen

For a change of view I drove to Burg Nanstein, a medieval castle ruin which is overlooking the city of Landstuhl.
Went for a walk on one of the many paths around the castle and collected chestnuts. There are chestnut trees all over the place, I could have taken home three- or four times as many. Unlike last year they are nice and big this year.

The main photo shows the statue of Ritter Franz von Sickingen. Named after him are many places and products here. He was a knight of the Holy Roman Empire and lived from 2 March 1481 and died 7 May 1523 on this castle. Landstuhl calls itself "Sickingenstadt" and I look at the Sickingen heights (Sickinger Höhe) from where I live. We have Sickingen-bread, a Sickingen bus and so on.

The extra is the view from the castle down to the city of Landstuhl. and the Bruch landscape. The second extra is a sign pointing out how the Bruch landscape has changed in the last 200+ years.
