Peek-a-boo

Actually it was probably, "Get away you monster!!" But in all fairness I did pick this guy up off of the road, with a leaf. I'm kind of freaked about having them on my bare hands. I put him off in the tall grass. What is it this year with all the creatures on the roads?!? I have actually seen a number of these guys squished on the roads which I think is weird. And who expects to see a praying mantis in the middle of October?

I was able to sneak my walk in before the rain started. And I pickled another 8 jars of beets, plus one for the fridge. I'm sure I have enough small ones out there to do another batch. We'll see how motivated I am.
Now the rain has started in earnest.
