Travelling Beachwards

Storm Babet had reorganised some of the sand on Porty beach as we found out when we arrived slightly later than usual  for our cold water fix. We found a lot of it piled up in a drift at the sea wall and the remaining sand was covered in large patches of shells. Portobello beach is usually clear of shells and seaweed and so it was a surprise to see so many washed up.
With an east wind there were waves but not fierce ones and it was fun to jump them although what was on the sea bed as we made contact with it was a little unsettling. I think it was just areas of shells and seaweed but it did feel rather  odd under our feet.

There had been a little rain in our bus journey down but we were gifted a dry interlude whilst in the water, it was just unfortunate that it resumed as we tried to dress. Still we are hardened to the vicissitudes of donning clothes in the rain and all was well as we made our way for a coffee stop at the Meadowbank McDonald’s where I can change buses- from a #26 to a #45. Well that’s the theory but there seems to be a black hole for #45 buses somewhere between the King’s Road bus depot and Meadowbank such that the bus stop notice board may say #45 Bus Due but it never appears and the notice changes discretely to #45 Bus 37 mins. So, 3 buses home but not a cold day thank goodness.
