Cruise Expedition Day 3
The wind has dropped and the ship has stabilised. It is sunny with clear blue skies.
am: Bio-security briefing and checks.
Within the last couple of days it has been confirmed that the death of a brown skua on SG was caused by 'bird flu'. At the moment it is unknown what effect this will have on our itinerary.
Followed by: Illustrated lecture on the cetaceans (whales and dolphins) that we may encounter.
pm: Lecture on the general geology and formation of this region of the world. Later on, more detailed introductions will be given before arrival at some of our future destinations.
A number of pelagic bird species have been spotted but too distant to get worthwhile photos. The resident expert gave IDs for them all - we just have to take his word on those! Later on we expect closer encounters so I took very few images today.
By 6pm, thickening cloud was building up in the West and coming nearer. That signifies an approaching depression so tomorrow's sea conditions are expected to deteriorate.
