Bruce Henley Halford

We went  to the unveiling of a blue plaque today provided by Torbay Civic Society. The Chairperson of Brixham Town Council, Cllr Michael Roseveare, performed the ceremony, between showers. The plaque was for Bruce Halford (18 May 1931 - 2 December 2001). He was one of the last enthusiastic private entrant owner/racing drivers, racing a Maserati 250F Formula 1 car in Europe, from 1956 to 1958. He competed in Formula 1 until 1960, racing against some of the greatest drivers in motorsport history: Juan Fangio, Mike Hawthorn, Jack Brabham, Jim Clark, Graham Hill and Stirling Moss.  The plaque was unveiled on the house he lived in from 1983 to 2001. He was also a hotelier, a Brixham trawler owner, and pilot boat coxswain.
