A Wet Feet Kind Of Day, Aylesford
This is a bit of a back blip but was when the week, only two days in, reached a bit of a nadir. My train was late getting in in the morning and when heading to Victoria after work it lashed it down while I was walking through Green Park which resulted in getting very wet trainers and socks. I'd been checking my apps (both Southeastern and National Rail) to see that my train was on time after an incident on my line earlier in the day. On Time, On Time, On Time they all confidently told me. Walked, sloshingly, into the station and there on the display board is the word no commuter wants to see, DELAYED. So I waited and waited and then the inevitable CANCELLED came up. At this point I found it all very unamusing as it meant getting on the underground (rammed full of half-termers) all the way over to Charing Cross to get an alternative train home. I finally reached home in a foul mood but at least I could finally take off the wet trainers and socks. I now know I need to get myself a good pair of boots - lesson learned!
During the whole week I reckon between 80 - 90% of my trains were late, delayed or cancelled. More than anything else it becomes a bit mentally exhausting. I do, however, know that in comparison to the terrible train services in the North and Scotland I get off pretty lightly as most weeks aren't nearly as bad as the one just gone.
