Talking Point
It’s surprising what we accept as normal and uninteresting but others find intriguing, for over twenty-five years the object of todays photo has hung on the wall on the first stairs landing. Largely unnoticed and accepted by the family as just one of Dad’s souvenirs the window fitters found it fascinating and whilst not asking my directly they did speculate where it might have come from. The other photo’s and memorabilia hidden away on the walls upstairs probably gave them some clues.
Made of resin and painted, it is a half section of a Heckler & Koch MP5 and was presented to me as my leaving gift by the unit I served with in Northern Ireland.
The Heckler & Koch HK53 was a blowback operated, selective fire weapon. This submachine gun was unusual because it fired from a closed bolt and had a roller-delay blowback mechanism making this weapon extremely accurate.
The third window was installed and makes a significant difference to the light levels upstairs.
A brief trip down town for shopping a posting off some letters. A coffee and catch up with a friend before home to help with the post workmen clean up.
