Pietiläs style shopping center

I went to the office today and on the way drove Emma to her apartment - she thinks she copes with her back now. She is disappointed that it still hurts and limits her life.

In the evening I drove to Hervanta again, this time to my yin yoga class. Then I went to see if there was anything interesting to photograph in the  Duo shopping centre. This is was what I found.

The shopping center is part of the central axis of Hervanta designed by Raili and Reima Pietilä, which is a nationally significant entity of public buildings. It was once intended to improve Hervanta's concrete-like appearance. The shopping center has features that are characteristic of the architecture and Art Nouveau style of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is a kind of mix of a European market hall, a train station and a winter garden. The fountain structure and the large windows, in turn, are elements that point to the era of large European department stores. There is also references to other historical periods, such as ancient Roman ruins. Red brick is a typical material for factories in Tampere.

We have exceptionally cold end of October and beginning of November. Temperatures this week will be up to 7 degrees Celsius colder than normal for this time of year. And it will snow tomorrow.

-1,4 °C, cloudy
