Oxford Road / Oxford Street

Here's a nice thing about Dublin Airport; unlike British Airports, you don't feel like you're constantly being fleeced. For example, a pint of Guinness at Dublin Airport is the same price as in Dublin itself (cheaper, in fact, than some places). They also take just as much care in pouring it.

The journey back home was only spoilt by my train being cancelled after our journey had begun, although that hardly seems an uncommon occurrence, these days. One is reminded of '1984', which, by coincidence, I started to re-read today.

Honestly, when is a government going to state for the record that privatisation of monopolies doesn't work? And the renationalise them?! (Not in the next twelve months as a minimum, I'm guessing.)

One mystery was solved for me, today, though. I can never remember whether the main road running down through Manchester is Oxford Road or Oxford Street. I can usually sort the problem by remembering the train station, but I'm always bemused by my enduring confusion.

Anyway, today, as I walked down from Oxford Road Station, I saw two signs showing that I had descended onto Oxford Street! Despite my enthusiasm for meeting the Minx at Joule, I still paused to look at Maps. It turns out that a little further south from the station, Oxford Street actually changes its name to Oxford Road!
