Car torched
We live in a very safe area. But something very extraordinary happened in 2018 and its only now come to trial.
One of our neighbours, Robert Ball, had his £119k Mercedes car torched and it sent shock waves through our respectable community. (His next-door neighbour for a time was Judy Murray).
A friend of mine living opposite saw the fire and raised the alarm.
( I blipped the event at the time. This is the link).
Who did it and why?
Well, I opened our local newspaper, the Stirling Observer, this morning and there was the court case. Our one-time neighbour, Roger Ball, always regarded as something of a suspect character turns out to have been a drug trafficker sentenced to 18 years in jail for a £11 million heroin haul, captured in a police sting.
And the man accused of setting fire to his car was acquitted. He was owed £150,000. So were a number of other people, all with motives to carry out the crime.
Ball “disappeared” from the area shortly after the torching incident.
All this happened in 2018 but its only now come to trial.
PS. The above photo is mine. I sent it out to our local paper at the time.
