Ponchos in the Rain

Thursday
Cameron lost his young Scot travel card which lets him travel free on the buses anywhere in Scotland. His new one was delivered to his home so we offered to take it to him today.

We booked the Flix bus from Broxden - in the ‘panoramic’ seats ie front two at the left! Nice journey in on comfy seats.

We stopped off at our favourite coffee shop The Milkman for coffee and home baking. The staff in there are lovely.

We couldn’t see Cameron as he had lectures all day so missed out on free food! After dropping off the card we headed to the Castle . This is where this pic was taken as this group tried to take pics as their Scottish ponchos were blown about in the wind! We saw the 1 o’clock gun, the Crown Jewels and then in the war museum asked them to open the books of names of the dead soldiers for my Great Uncle Alexander to see his name written- died on 10 October 1917 at Passchendaele , West Flanders. Seeing his name written and the many books in that room with the names of the dead, I was in tears. My grandpa’s brother, thankfully they weren’t in the same regiment of the Black Watch. The horrors and futility of war.

We finished up and walked down the grassmarket to a Middle Eastern cafe and had some nice food. We were all decked out in our waterproofs over our normal clothes so we were dry and toasty walking in the rain.

Walked down to the indoor shopping centre for some chocolate from Hotel Chocolate!

Bus at 16:10 and good to by pass the queues going over the old bridge.

Even though the weather was shit it was a good day.
