Late afternoon at Montezuma
Had a wine club 4pack to pick up today in the Fingerlakes and decided to go to the refuge afterwards. ducks and ducks and more ducks! Mostly mallards , pintails and lots of green teals. There were also fear number of coots and a few gadwalls. There were also trumpeter and probably tundra swans also but they tend to hang out in the back of the pond , too far for photos. This was 1 of only 2 herons seen today and it is late for herons really. I think the weather is so mild a lot of migrants were late this year. There was a huge flock of starling still that far north and lots of geese, even some snow geese and they are usually in Delaware by October. Caught sight of one harrier and a peregrine also too far for photos. I can't post the shots of the heron in the air or the teal , may post them tomorrow because I have no little box for extras tonight for some reason.
