Speedbird

Following on from yesterday's late Blip, here is G-BOAC in her 'hangar' at Manchester's Runway Visitor Park.

The extra is wide angle because she wouldn't fit in the frame otherwise. Flying at Mach 2 as a passenger...well I cannot imagine...and the experience inside the cockpit at speeds normally reserved for fighter jets must have been thrilling for the Pilots (& Phil Collins).

'Speedbird' - the Callsign used by most British Airways flights (domestic UK flights using the Callsign 'Shuttle') was probably most apt when used for Concorde. It took on extra significance for this particular aircraft whose registration G-BOAC references British Airways precursor - British Overseas Aircraft Corporation - BOAC, who took the Callsign to refer to its emblem that resembled a bird in flight.
