McCauley Hot Springs

Well, we had to work for it, but it sure felt good once we sank our tired feet into the warm water.

We began the climb at 6,500' (1981 meters) and ended at the hot springs at elevation 7,500' (2286 meters).  Who would have thought you would find hot springs at such an elevation?

The volcanism that created the Jemez Mountains still has an active magma chamber deep below the surface. As a result, the Jemez Mountains have several thermal springs to enjoy.

~ A perfect day for a hike through the Ponderosa pine forest.
