Fete de la Tour

You can't go far in this area of France without seeing cyclists, and especially this year as the Tour de France is in Vaison for 3 days.
14th - 16th July.

On the 14th July the Tour starts in Givors and finishes at the top of Mt Ventoux. passing through Vaison on the way.
242.5 km, and the finish on the famous mountain is one of the hardest climbs of the tour. After cycling all that way they have a climb of 1912 mtrs! The last few miles there is no shade as the trees run out.

The next day 15th July is a rest day ( I think they will need it!)

Then on the 16th July they set off from Vaison - la- Romaine for Gap.

Today is the Fete de la Tour, and about 70 amateur cyclists set off to climb the mountain. see here (sorry in French!)
I just reached the start as they were about to set off. A very happy bunch!

I wonder if they all made it? As it is another hot sunny day.

Posting this early as we are waiting for our friends to arrive.
Just had a call to say they are stuck round Lyon, in the same road works we were in last week. ( They were supposed to be finished on the 10th June)
Never mind we have been to market this morning and stocked up with food and wine, so there will be a meal ready for them when they do arrive after their journey.
