Snow Petrel and Iceberg

Saturday November 4th 2023
Leaving South Georgia - Cruise Expedition Day 13  -  At Sea - Scotia Sea
Sea and Icebergs

A more relaxing day after the last four hectic days on South Georgia where we were really lucky for the weather and sea conditions which allowed us to do all and more of the planned activities.

am.  A talk about the Antarctic Treaty by Katie, our ship's historian.

then in the pm,
A talk about the more southern species of seals by John and
A talk about the seabirds of Antarctica by Kevin.

In the evening I opted out of a documentary about whalesharks around the Galapagos Islands, and instead had another long blether with Scobie in the bar which was quiet.

The weather still exceptionally good and the M S Expedition is making over 14 knots instead of the expected 12 knots across the Scotia sea.
Because we are now ahead of scedule, the Captain thiks we will have time to visit Elephant Island.
Elephant Island is a bleak island off the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula where Shackleton left most of his men while he set off for South Georgia to raise the alarm and initiate a rescue by ship.
