The Old Bank of England

This is the pub known as The Old Bank of England which can be found in Fleet Street next to The Royal Courts of Justice. It is a Grade ll listed building that was built in 1886, about the same time as the RCJ, and served as the Law Courts branch of the Bank of England until 1974. It reopened as a pub in 1994. I have no idea what the connection, if any, was between the bank and the Law Courts in that 88 year period but it is certainly an impressive building with a lavish interior as seen in the extra photo. Apparently gold bullion used to be kept in its vaults. I popped in there for a quick half after a couple of meetings, this afternoon and early evening, in the RCJ and the Rolls Building. That's my 4th time in London in the last 6 days - it's a bit like being a commuter again. A successful day, though, so I an returning home nicely content.
