The Black Lagoon

Thank you for your great comments on yesterday's blip of Solomon's Temple. I've nearly replied to all of you!

I wasn't sure if anyone would find this blip interesting. But as it has been on National news and TV this last week in the UK, I thought I would blip the lagoon as it really is and not as seen in the media.

The Blue Lagoon, until two weeks ago was a beautiful turquoise blue. The colour being caused by the minerals in it. It has formed naturally from a disused quarry at Harpur Hill near Buxton, UK.

The downside is that it has a pH of 12 (14 being the most alkaline possible). It is deadly poisonous.

THE LAGOON IS MORE CORROSIVE THAN THE STRONGEST HOUSEHOLD BLEACH.


There are car wrecks, dead animals, litter, just about every nasty thing you can think of in there!

Unfortunately, many people ignore the many warning signs of the dangers and come to swim there. Some believe it has medicinal qualities and even dunk tiny babies in there!! The locals in Harpur Hill are very aware of the problems and don't go to the lagoon.

THE LOCAL COUNCIL DECIDED TO MAKE IT UNATTRACTIVE AS THE WARNINGS WERE BEING IGNORED. SO THEY DYED IT BLACK!!

There have been hundreds of media people to see it and photograph it since they did this last week.

If you look carefully, the underlying turquoise can be seen through the blackness.

The car parts are two wheels, an axle and an engine. They have been there only a few months and the rate of corrosion is phenomenal!!

It is just simply staggering that in today's society, people will still believe it is a good idea to swim there and take children.

It is privately owned. The guy has done everything possible to stop the activity. He has offered to sell it for £1. The Council won't buy it for obvious reasons.

What a carry on!!!!
