Canucks Win!!
This shot by JJ, live from the game (my blipper in the field ;-))
Ice Hockey is the biggest sport in Canada, and our local team is the Vancouver Canucks. It is rare to be able to go to a game because the arena is usually sold out, and tickets are very expensive.
In the past few years, the team has failed to live up to expectations…to put it kindly. This season fans did not know what to expect. When I saw the score of their first game against their rivals Edmonton, 8-1 I though uh-oh, until I woke up and realized, that was FOR the Canucks! They have not looked back, and are one of the best teams in the entire league of 30 teams. There is reason for optimism.
Canuck is a friendly nickname for Canadian. It is ironic therefore, that over the years, the best Vancouver Canucks have generally been Swedes. And we embrace that. This year the stars are one great Swede, Elias Pettersson, currently the league’s leading scorer, and four Americans.
This shot is after last night’s 6-2 win over those same Edmonton Oilers, the third time the Canucks have defeated them this season! The losing team, in white, can’t get to the dressing room fast enough, and the winning teams basks in the cheers of the fans, and the exploding fireworks (the entire game is an assault on the senses) and lines up to congratulate their outstanding goalie, the delightfully named, Thatcher Demko.
Go Canucks!
Extra- Update- what a difference a day makes! A cold, strong NW wind came up overnight and denuded our tree. Pretty clear what today’s job will be….
