Remembering a Summer

It is 7 pm on 15th June and the outside temperature is 11 degrees centigrade; in six days it will be mid summer. When I look at this anxious face, bought from a pottery in Crail on the Fife coast, I remember family summer holidays there and, yes in August we needed a windbreak but the summers seemed good enough to attract lots of holidaymakers to this spot before we all ventured abroad in search of sun and Sangria.
So perhaps the potter saw the future and fashioned a wistful face.
The village is still attractive, the potter is still flourishing and we pay tribute to good times past by making an annual pilgrimage, still spending as often as not a few bob in the pottery. But - 'By Jings it's cauld these days!'
