A gem discovered

Today was wet most of the time. At the other times, it looked as if it was getting ready to become wet again.

We took a trip across to Maclaurin Gallery in Ayr, Ellen had a couple of pieces in their open exhibition. The gallery is situated in Rozelle Park which was hosting the Holy Fair there today. I felt for them in the rain.

The park is a gem. Big green spaces, great collection of trees and some rhododendrons were out in their glorious colours. We came across a sculpture in five pieces by the Ayrshire Sculptor, Ronald Rae. His most famous sculpture lies outside the Scottish Parliament.

The Rozelle piece was done over 30 years ago, carved from granite slabs salvaged from the walls of Ayr harbour bing rebuilt at the time. The piece is called the 'Tragic Sacrifice of Christ' and this particular panel is the face of Christ as depicted in the Turid Shroud.

We just stumbled across it. Delightful surprise.
