Aftermath of the Storms

Son#2 is making a good recovery following his heart procedure last week, and today he felt well enough to go for a walk at Whitley Bay, for some "healing" sea air. It was a bit chilly so we all wrapped up well but the sun kindly shone for most of the time. (I confess that, in addition to the walk, a coffee and a scone may have been consumed at the Rendezvous Cafe on the promenade.)

The recent storms have left a lot of stones on what is usually a pleasant sandy beach: as the sun was shining nicely on them I got down low with the camera for this photo (I'm pleased to say that getting up again wasn't too much of a struggle!).

It was almost high tide and the waves were lapping up against the prom so one had to be a little careful not to get soaked if walking near the edge. The extra shows how the spray was rising: it was nothing like the photos we've seen of the spray during the height of the storms though (we missed seeing that in person as we were in Canada when Storm Babet struck). In the background on the extra you can see the dome of the restored, iconic "Spanish City" leisure complex.
