Rainy day off
It rained and I didn’t accomplish anything but I’m going to dinner in China Town with a friend and her parents.
Ukraine has prepped for winter this year. Last year Russia attacked Ukraine’s energy infrastructure incessantly to break the country and make the citizens suffer. Russia launched 1,200 attacks and every thermal power and hydro-electric plant in the country sustained damage, They got through it. The world helped, but the utility employees repeatedly and rapidly repaired the infrastructure and for the past seven months they’ve been preparing for the Russians to try to do it again. DTEK, the utility, boosted output and bolstered defenses. Physical barriers have been erected around the transmission network. They are trying to protect critical buildings with sandbags and metal cages to prevent damage from falling debris. They are also asking for air defense systems.
“The company has also prepared equipment reserves, trained repair teams and dispatchers to cope with the aftermath of possible attacks and set up backup power supply chains for consumers…. Management companies for high-rise apartment buildings have bought generators and accumulators - rechargeable, secondary batteries - to keep water pumping and elevators running. Businesses have upgraded to bigger generators that can keep the lights on for longer.”
