Garden party

I missed Kate’s birthday party yesterday but felt up to driving out to their old home for a catch-up today. K is one of 8 children 7 girls and 1 boy. As we were at boarding school we got to know a lot of the family over the years. 6 out of 10 in our final year were there. I haven’t seen some for 50+ years. They live in different states and different marital arrangements. Some with kids, others have none. Boarding school is different from day class and we all felt connected. There were some men there who were at the boys school across town, I remembered 2 of them.

We wandered around the huge garden. I believe it was designed by Paul Sorensen who was a famous Australian landscape gardener. Until this year it was mainly cared for by Kate’s 100 year old mother.

We sat around under the shade of the trees for 4 hours which was like playing ladies. Lots of fun talking about the good old days and current topics like forgetting things and joint replacements.
