Troglodytes troglodytes
For some reason, unknown to myself, this is one of the very few Latin / scientific names for creatures that I remember. This wren was very busy in the hedge outside our apartment today. It was bustling about, feeding and calling. It didn't seem to mind when I opened the window which allowed me to photograph it from the comfort of our lounge.
Fascinating wren facts! - There are 60 species of wren but this one is the only one to live in Britain, Europe and Africa. This apparently is why it is so successful - no competition from similar species. This raises some interesting questions though, why was this the only species of wren to come from the Americas? And how did it get here? Love to hear any good theories / knowledge.
