Friday: Banded Together
We were up relatively early so got back on the road to Belmopan from Belize City and were home just after 8am.
This evening we hosted a reception to mark 40 years of the UK government’s scholarship scheme. We had many of the alumni there who shared very fond memories of their time in the UK. We also lucked out as we were able to use both British army chefs and an army band visiting from the UK. We got lots of compliments for both, but particularly the food.
We had about 70 guests in total. I try and get round everyone at these events but it’s not always possible. I do find it amazing how many people will come to the house and accept hospitality, but not feel it necessary to come and say hello or goodbye.
The evening finished at about 10.30pm once we managed to get rid of a few stragglers. All would have been well if we hadn’t had an after party in the kitchen with a couple of colleagues. They eventually left just after 3am which explains my backblipping.
