Llyn Geirionedd

Yesterday, I was bemoaning the damp and dismal weather; today, I’m luxuriating in brilliant sunshine - a light which makes the autumn colours sing.

We set off west, unsure whether to go for sea or mountain: the latter wins. The Conwy Valley is beautiful enough, but we decide to head up higher into Gwydir Forest and to Llyn Geirionedd. It’s a place we try to avoid at weekends as it’s so popular, but decide  it’s big enough for all of us to share its beauty.

There’s a lone wet-suited swimmer, expertly cutting through the glassy waters, strokes hardly making a splash as the bright orange marker glides with her across the lake. Then there’s the woolly hatted paddle boarder who’s taking her dog along for the ride, closely followed by a whole flotilla taking a paddle boarding lesson as they nervously yet proficiently set off,  brightly coloured boards and clothing reflecting perfectly.

We don’t come up here that often - maybe once or twice a year - but it really is sublimely beautiful, especially on a day like this with sunlit autumn colours doubled up in the perfect stillness of the icy waters.

You know what’s coming now - of course I can’t decide on my main, so here’s a Llyn Geirionedd set!
