I read that this hoverfly is also called Batman because of the shape of the markings, which look like batman's logo, behind it's head. 

That's quite amazing but what stands out for me is that it is even here. I didn't expect to see one so late in autumn, although a bit of research confirmed that they can be spotted from April until November. Just shows what a bit of sunshine and mild weather can produce.
