Trees on the Glacial Erratic Mound
Storm Debi is still providing moisture. Mostly light rain with a couple of much heavier bursts. There's still light rain as I go for a short lunchtime walk. The blip shows the trees, part of the birch wood, in the park. The mound covers the remains of a glacial erratic deposited here, according to the Edinburgh Geological Society, about 15,000 years ago. The volcanic rock was quarried when the area was a sand pit, and now only a small amount remains, but enough for the mound to survive, and for trees to grow on it.
Rain goes off in the afternoon. On the afternoon walk, there's a hint of pink on clouds as the sun sets. The could don't really clear, so the entire walk is quite dark.
