A great father...

On this Father's Day I felt this an appropriate blip, and an unusual one! This male cardinal is feeding his fledgling offspring on our deck, but if you notice dad is bald!

We have seen this fellow around for a while, and other than baldness he is doing fine. The cause of this is unknown, even ornithologists can't agree. The camps are divided between some sort of unusual molt pattern, or lice and mites. The majority tend to lean toward the unusual molt theory, because most of the ones investigated had no lice or mites.

Here are a couple more of the cardinal, and an egret from earlier today.
