Marieki

Following on from yesterday’s pottery photograph, I felt that I should continue with the theme.

These three pieces were again made in Grahamstown South Africa by the very talented potter Marietjie van der Merwe, known as Marieki and that is how they are signed on the bottom.

We knew Marieki in the 1960s, from her time in Grahamstown which had rich clay deposits highly suitable for potters.

While researching her life (1935 - 1992) I found examples of her work in collections and museums and even an MA thesis on her productive years.

I now await to see what my cousin analogconvert13 publishes to complete my challenge of another Marieki.
