One Marietjie. Leitz Summicron 50mm DR

My cousin, Crispin25, and I have been discovering family treasures which we decided we would share in a coordinated effort here on Blip. Here is a link to Crispin's posting for today.
Yesterday, we presented the work of a German potter, Jurgen Hamburger, who set up shop in Grahamstown, South Africa.  Today, we show the work of Marietjie van der Merwe - 1935-1992, also active in Grahamstown ~1960-1988.  Marietjie - the diminutive of Marie in Afrikaans, also signed her work Mariki, or, in the case of my little vase, Marieki.  Since "tj" in Afrikaans is pronounced "k", this makes perfect sense.
The Extra shows the underside of the piece with signature, and interestingly, what appears to be the price which my late mom payed Marietjie at her studio back in probably the late '60s or early '70s: (R)1.00 written in pencil.  A little perspective:  At that time, one South African Rand - ZAR - was worth a lot of money.  There were just two Rand to the GBP, and a US Dollar was worth just .75 of a South African Rand!  Those halcyon days are gone forever.  I don't think anything can be found to buy for R1 in South Africa now, let alone a handmade vase by an established artist.
