Kitchen garden

Glorious day.   My birthday this weekend and i took the day off… nice slow start to the day. The weather was lovely; sunny and the autumn colours glowed.  First off we went to the Horse Guards Inn at Tillington just outside Petworth where we had an exceptional lunch. It’s a deliciously ramshackle pub with fine objets nestle with kitsch.   Must have a small lunch we said to each other and then ate three courses, finishing with very fine affogato which is one of my favourite things but so often disappointing.  The ice cream needs to be good and very cold and firm and the espresso very strong.

Drove on to The Pig in the South Downs where we are spending the weekend.  It’s the third we’ve stayed at and because this one is small, and hard to get into we booked in February and are in the best room. It’s like the dream or a Georgian country house.  I had a facial in the ‘potting shed’ which you get to walking through the kitchen garden, pictured above.

We had cocktails and dinner.  Lumbered off to bed like an over stuffed python
