Half and half

After getting .5 inches of rain yesterday, the temperature dropped well below freezing last night. It was another beautiful morning of frostiness. My main is the echinacea seed heads half in the sun and the back side still frosty.
I wandered around under the pear tree since that area was still in the shade of the house and the frost was lingering. I was surprised to see how colorful the pear leaves were. I took a number of pear/oak leaf pictures but my extra was one of my favorites.
I took a nice walk down the Coastal road today and once I got home I went out to one of the gardens where Dan was harvesting his cabbages and rutabagas (not a favorite of mine). I knew there were rogue potatoes throughout the area. I should have flagged them because the plants were completely gone when I wanted to dig. I dug through the area and was rewarded with about 15, ranging from small to quite large. I had to throw the extra in of the couple that I cooked up today. I had stabbed them with the shovel and so I wanted to get them cooked up. All of these potatoes had been left over from last year and overwintered and then grew plants this past summer. It's fun to get unexpected veggies :-)
